About This Place

Located in the vibrant heart of New York City’s NoMad neighborhood, Semicolon Cafe offers an inviting haven for coffee lovers and casual diners alike. This cafe and coffee shop blends modern aesthetics with a warm, spacious atmosphere, making it an ideal spot to relax, work, or catch up with friends. Whether you choose to settle in upstairs or downstairs, the thoughtfully designed space—with unique touches like LEGO decorations—creates a creative yet comfortable environment that resonates with both locals and visitors.

Semicolon Cafe’s menu is a delightful fusion of artisanal coffee and crave-worthy sandwiches, crafted with care and a touch of innovation. The standout beverages beckon with their rich and velvety textures: the Tiramisu Latte, with its luscious layers of espresso and creamy mascarpone flavors, is a must-try for those looking to indulge their sweet tooth; meanwhile, the Strawberry Matcha Latte—a vibrant and surprisingly creamy blend served hot—has earned glowing praise for its perfectly balanced, refreshing taste that transcends the usual coffeehouse fare. For those with a penchant for nutty delights, the Pistachio Latte is an irresistible concoction marrying smooth espresso with pistachio-infused milk, creating a subtly sweet and fragrant cup.

The café’s sandwich selection is equally tempting, boasting both hearty and inventive options. The Shroom Sandwich offers a comforting, umami-packed experience that speaks directly to fans of bold flavors, while the Chicken and Ham Sandwiches deliver satisfying, classic tastes elevated by high-quality ingredients and expert preparation. One regular’s description of the Avocado Sandwich captures the essence of their craft: every bite is “fluffy” with “stellar sauce,” embodying the careful attention that goes into each dish. The “S O S Sandwich,” a signature offering, rounds out the hearty lineup, ensuring there’s something to satisfy every craving. And for those with a sweeter inclination, a box of assorted macarons—almond flour based and elegantly crafted—is the perfect companion with your coffee or tea.

But Semicolon Cafe is more than just food and drinks. It’s a community space, praised for its spacious seating arrangements that provide both cozy corners and open areas, making it a great place to work, study, or simply unwind. The vibe is laid-back yet creative, with the decor’s charming quirks adding a subtle touch of whimsy to the experience.

While many customers appreciate the friendly and attentive baristas, it’s worth noting some have experienced less warmth from the staff, a detail to keep in mind when visiting. Nevertheless, the overall consensus is that Semicolon Cafe’s unique menu, stylish environment, and consistent quality make it a standout amidst the bustling New York cafe scene.

Whether you’re craving a carefully crafted espresso or a comforting sandwich that feels like a hug in food form, Semicolon Cafe promises a memorable and richly sensory experience. It’s a hidden gem where flavor meets creativity, making every visit something to look forward to.

First time trying this place and food was good! Sandwiches are as good as they look and prices are reasonable. Love the modern aesthetic and how they display their menu. Creative food and drink options are definitely unique for this area of town! They also have lower and upper level seating so it’s spacious to hang out in. Echoing other commenters, the service and staff were noticeably unpleasant. Two girls worked the front counter and looked like they really didn’t want to be there. Open front door and no greetings to anyone walking in nor any eye contact. They looked miserable. The girl who took my order asked for my name and could not get [the easy spelling] right after multiple attempts, even randomly adding more letters and of course not knowing how to pronounce it when the food was ready. Seemed oddly complicated and unnecessary. Friday 1pm and there weren’t even many people in the cafe to need to rush. I would return for the sandwiches alone but customer service left something to be desired so I’d probably explore other options first unless I were really craving these sandwiches.

Great food! Dope vibe! Semicolon off of 3rd Ave is a great priced breakfast spot. The interior is so nice and a great spot to relax. I ordered the Avocado sandwich and the mango banana smoothie. The smoothie was alright, nothing crazy, but safe. The Avocado was great! Every bite was fluffy, and the sauce was stellar. I would try this place again!

The overall decor of this place was so nice (they had legos up as decoration which I found unique), they had a lot of available seating - safe to say it's a good place to study while eating good food & drinking good coffee. Kind baristas too.

This place surprisingly became one of the spots that I’ll say it’s a hidden gem.. the price was overall slightly high but I highly recommend the drinks. Lady Matcha was a strawberry matcha latte. It was AMAZING.. and I had it hot..! which the fun fact: the staff only tried cold one before so they didn’t even sure. I said I would not say anything unless it was good. AND IT WAS SO GOOD. Creamy, thick, and rich. The housemade strawberry sauce was not too sweet. SOS sandwich was delicious and an healthy option. It reminded me of burgers from street vendors in Seoul. The only thing was that I didn’t really get corns in it..

I was a little hesitant at first but this was one of the best coffees I’ve had in a while. I’ve been big into cold foam when treating myself but this drink did not need it. I got the tiramisu latte- chef’s kiss. Whatever cream they put inside? We go together real bad. I’m from out of town and the barista made the recommendation. I told her I’m a, “big coffee girl. I like to taste my espresso but also have fun with sweets.” This was right on the mark. Oh, almost forgot to add food. The bread was… unexplainably fresh and the mozzarella cheese was everything you could want and more. Love adding new spots to my destination library. Thanks again!

Got a tiramisu latte, was $8.71 kind of steep in price. It tastes pretty standard, wouldn’t say there’s a wow factor but decent. The cafe itself has two floors of seating, could be a decent place to study/work
